These self-taught ones that succeed

Thomas Edison, self-taught famous inventor of the electric bulb

One speaks often with admiration of these scholars or arrived contractors of renown to the summit of their art in a self-taught way, without significant diploma. Qu’ils s’appellent Thomas Edison, inventor to the thousand and a patents, Charles Darwin and his theory of l’évolution or Steve Jobs, the leader d’Apple, all knew to form themselves by themselves to l’écart educational institutions. And their success indicates l’efficacité that can have this method d’apprentissage, that is nevertheless less easy to implement and less quoted than the royal way of l’éducation superior.

But which are therefore the characteristics of this method of formation that have them more better to succeed permi than most of the framed students? C’est the question to which one will attempt to reply in this item…

Self-taught Etre, c’est what?

Any d’abord, for well to understand our subject, we must put ourselves d’accord on the self-taught term, and therefore autodidaxie. Not happy definition of Wikipedia, c’est in the book The new self-taught one Of Georges The Meur that j’ai found the better track. One there reads that l’autodidaxie is a "not formativegait subject to a third [...] freely decided and directed completely by l’acteur social itself. It forms himself without entrusting to an intermediary educational one none of the responsibilities of his apprenticeship. Therefore of fact appears clearly l’absence d’hégémonie d’une exterior educational authority [...] that does not mean qu’elle n’en calls not to d’autres people. To this effect, we recall that the permanent quest of the experts appears essential throughout the research ".

One sees therefore that the principal quality d’un self-taught is d’être the only person in charge of his formation, same s’il can time in time to ask counsel to experts. C’est to him qu’incombe the choice of the disciplines to treat, the research of the sources d’information, maintains it of his rhythm of work and the validation of its obtain. That does a lot for a single man, but this has the merit d’épargner l’élève numerous defects of the educational system.

The rigidity of the educational system

L’un more big defects of the classical educational system is linked to his intrinsic quality d’ mass education that gives him a too big rigidity. L’enseignement must allow covering with almost exhaustive manner the taught matters in a manner to give the possiblité to the students to specialize itself in all the under possible matters, to say nothing of the legendary general culture that any high voucher must obtain.

It is necessary therefore yield, and if one of the student is completely lost or wants d’aller more in depth and d’expérimenter in the subject in course? Not the time, one already must pass to the following subject! This stuffing of skull done that the students even cannot appreciate the subject and to ask itself questions on this qu’ils learn. They are more interested only by l’obtention diploma so qu’on leaves them quiet and qu’ils at last all can forget. This method d’apprentissage n’est not natural. The students are pushed to study superficially and to against heart.

To the difference of the educational institutions, in autodidaxie, one does in l’artisanat, and that changes all!

L’autodidacte is fascinated

As l’autodidacte n’est not forced d’apprendre, that the decision belongs him, it generally develops a real passion for his subject d’étude, and c’est an essential criterion for his success. L’intérêt pronounced qu’il tests does that his motivation comes rather of l’intérieur that d’une any good grade or recognition d’un third. This allows him d&and more resistant to the critics. Armed of its models of success and of its dreams, his determination is superior to the one of the framed students. L’autodidacte knows this qu’il wants and acts consequently.

This line between the me emotional and its activities allow l’autodidacte d’atteindre uniformly l’ wave state, this legendary state d’efficacité supreme where the subject totally is absorbed by this qu’il done. In these moments, no small internal voice comes to enter in conflict with his reasoning. The procrastination and frustration linked to the lack d’intégrité n’ont not their place.

Sometimes, all that even can resemble of l’obsession, l’apprenant living for his passion, that obtains him a capacity of huge work. Thus learns one that Thomas Edison lived in his laboratory and slept only four hours by night. It said to be able to work 48, indeed 72 hours d’affilée!

This exacerbated interest for the studied matter does that l’élève puts itself also to look for constantly in his environment of what to supply his knowledge. Suddenly, the border between the moments d’étude and current life s’estompe. And in particular, l’autodidacte never loses an occasion to practice this qu’il learned.

L’autodidacte practical

One associates well often l’autodidaxie to l’apprentissage by the practice, and to just title. As it n’a not need d’encadreur, l’autodidacte can study the theoretical party of the courses n’importe where. It is therefore free d’aller to form itself there where it can practice. C’est a huge advantage for that allows him to confront very uniformly the theoretical models qu’il has in head to the real objects, going more better count of the approximations that were done on its supports d’apprentissage. This gait is very different of the one of the eater of books that reserves itself the party practices only in a hypothetical future (the passage to professional life for example).

The constant link with the reality gives him a certain security facing the errors d’interprétation qu’il could have done while drawing to know it only in the books. It goes more better count of what is futile and of what is essential, his critical spirit s’éguise. To force to practice, it learns to do the party between the contradictory texts in order to release for itself this qu’il considers as admi.

Let's note as as some know manuals are very difficult to put to bed on the paper, or even on multimedia supports. To practice will be therefore not only useful to release the true one false one but equally to learn more naturally in living body and soul l’activité aimed. Dived in a real position, it will have l’impression that this qu’il learns has a real function, which will improve by far his motivation.

L’autodidacte explores

Liberated of the institutional pressures, l’autodidacte has the free field to take its research there where good seems him. It n’est not obliged to follow the conventional way of l’étudiant framed that must concentrate on l’obtention diploma.

It in spring an insatiable curiosity that the sprout continually to l’acquisition of multiple competences often mixed. That gives him more luck d’aborder his subject under several perspectives, and therefore more of luck to see things that would have escaped the experts. His unique profile will nourish an abundant creativity allowing him d’to innovate and to develop his clean style.

Notice here that to be effective, l’autodidacte will have to watch to discipline itself, while finding a balance between dispertion and concentration. It is evident qu’apprendre without stops new know in a superficial way is counter-productive.

Conclusion

As one sees it, the principal trump of l’autodidacte is the liberty that obtains him this method d’apprentissage. It can thus learn what is anxious him heart, to be going to practice in the field and organize his journey as it l’entends. But c’est also a method d’apprentissage exacting: l’autodidacte must be able s’automotiver and to discipline itself to advance. It has to find itself its supports d’étude and do the party between the futile one and l’essentiel, notably while practicing most often possible.

S’il arrives to find his rhythm while remaining exacting with itself, l’étudiant self-taught then will have initiated a habit own to him to assure a permanent autoformation. It then will have put all the luck of his side to be part of the big ones of this world.

For more d’exemples of self-taught personalities celebrate and inspiring, I invite you to read the Lobby of fame Site Autodidactic in a hurry.

I think that l’autodidaxie maybe a good thing, but only to leave d’un certain age.
Beyond the motivation problems (not always easy to motivate itself slave over without being constrained to 15 years, even with passion), I think that the principal risk is the lack d’expérience global that can do to pass next to some know indirectly essential to what l’on wants to do later. If one never goes to l’école for example, one will have does not necessarily envy d’apprendre to write correctly in French, or does not envy to work his general culture, or the commercial one…
There is also the risk as the domain in the which one one will specialize oneself s’effondre (for example a person that would have specialized itself in the treatment of the photos argentique) : without wide base of knowledge, one can be taken to the trap.
And then to the final one there is the risk to rediscover itself isolated, for outside of the basic base for the young ones: the educational system.

At last good all that to say that l’autodidaxie is something that can be very positive, but after a certain age.

@John: I divide your view point. The case of Edison, that n’est not gone to l’école is a not very special one: one can read in his biography that his mother that was in l’éducation l’a put to l’école then removed for his teacher said qu’il was hyperactif and slow to learn. Of more, it was suffering from deafness. And as his mother was in l’éducation she has had the means of him to give special courses at the start.

Therefore completely d’accord, it is necessary nonetheless to be guided at the start, especially when one is young.

Personally does currently my studies in ESC, and I feel rather self-taught in the direction where I pass a lot of times on internet to m’informer on subjects that fascinate me.

And when I look at the others of my promo, j’ai sometimes really l’impression to see a larva pile that await to copy any swelling which their says the teacher for l’apprendre next by heart, without asking itself no question or to want d’en to know more… Brief no curiosity…

Very good item effectively, since all small one already I was very interested in more things than the average, j’ai learn the tâtonnement and j’avoue that c’est a big one more in everyday life.

L’apprentissage passive is really counter-productive, it n’y has nothing of such to learn that to look for oneself. C’est of l’activité (on the contrary passivité)et l’intéressement that is born the better apprenticeship qu’il is.

It is necessary also to note the formatage of certain, too a long time to receive the data qu’à to be going to look for them. They swear only by the by heart and refute any possibility to reinvent oneself not this would be qu’une definition.

    I am partially d’accord.

Be self-taught specialize itself, no problem. But l’être as early as the departure, without receiving no formation, without learning from l’expérience and know-how of the oldest ones, seems me more delicate.

I sincerely think qu’être a self-taught voucher n’est possible qu’à to leave the where certain moments bases are obtained. Certain people will obtain them more quickly than d’autres, but the basis remains the same: l’école. And even if the taught matters serve not always, they have at least the deserve t’ "to learn to learn".

Completely d’accord, I am myself this qu’on can appeller a "self-taught". I do not bear absolutely the collective current, not that I refuse l’autorité, but j’ai need of trvailler with a group restricts (to see alone) facing my professor.
J’ai need of this relation student mentor, to be able to satisfy my curiosity need.
C’est hard tres, for aujourd’hui, I launch myself in the artistic domain, that in contrast to popular belief is a trade and that, as any discipline, nécéssite a apprentissage.L’avantage c’est that l’on is not blocked by the diploma in this domain, as for example medicine, the right, l’architecture,… that are them of the metiers protegés.

Is one chosen the way of the high school, is self-taught. I think that I am not adapted to the school system that is strong réstrictif (to my gout) and that is adapted to a certain type of functioning.

In the matter of the work in him even, j’essaye of m’entourer of professionals in order not to to be alone in my small secret laboratory.
I stretched to discipline me, but I must say that c’est tres tres difficult to work and d’apprendre only, to take stock of its obtain (this qu’apporte the tests and the exams in l’enseignement "classical"), to synthesize, to follow his work schedule, of s’assurer that this schedule of work n’est not too exacting or too not very adapted to oneself.

Brief, I would say that to be self-taught, it is necessary well to know itself, to know that morally that sometimes can be hard to feel "marginal" in the domain that l’on would want to master, not to hesitate nevertheless to ask counsel and apprenticeship to professionels that can guide you to certain moments, to discipline itself, but especially to learn to work éfficacement.

J’étudie by correspondence and I m’aperçois that, as j’apprends only, that l’intérêt dissipates itself and therefore to the final one, it in results a "démotivation" that widely brakes l’intérêt that I carried to the very beginning of my courses by correspondence.
Therefore if it is true that l’autodidaxie is a good thing (has several consideration d’ailleur for she s’oppose to the passive formation) it is all so true qu’elle can cause l’effet inverse because of l’isolement, lack of gregariousness, and for any other reason linked to our personality.
All depends on the personality d’un individual.

I see it when I give my adult courses (certain students did the studies d’autres not..) J’ai sometimes to resolve me to m’adapter to the manner d’apprendre of each (certain his very school one, d’autres fascinated, visual. .).mais my methods to teach remain wholesale the same, the students finish not s’adapter to my manner d’enseigner l’informatique (given j’ai of the courses in the plastic arts and d’autres domains).
