The 4 hours week of Tim Ferriss (1/2)

Buy the 4 hours week on AmazonCa made a good moment that I intended to speak about the famous book The 4 Hour WorkWeek of Tim Ferriss. And I finally was pleased to traverse it. The title in itself is rather provocative and intriguing: The 4 Hours Week, and one can say of it as much the major part of the book.

The principal idea is that many people end up being identified with their job for want of anything better. They turned the back on their dreams or deferred them to a hypothetical retirement.

Tim Ferriss proposes very an other approach: to optimize its generating activities of income to give time to leave regularly in mini-retirement without awaiting the end of its active life.

And it is well placed to speak about it since it applied itself its method to carry out some prowesses:

  • National champion of kickboxing in China
  • First American to hold a record in Tango
  • Actor in series TV hong-kongaises and Chinese
  • Lecturer at the University of Princeton in entrepreunariat
  • Linguist in Japanese, Chinese, German and Spanish
  • (etc etc)

The book followed upon the request pressing for some of its pupils of Princeton. It is articulated in 4 parts which form the acronym DEAL for Definition (of the problem), Elimination (of the nonproductive activities), Automation (of the income) and Release (geographical independence). Here an outline of the principles on which it is based:

The New Rich person (or New Happy)

The book starts by describing a new generation of millionaires: those which are not characterized by their richness pécunière but which has the means of offering the luxury of mobility and the spare time. Tim Ferriss calls this way of life it Lifestyle Design. Approximately: to become the only decision maker of the life style which one wishes to carry out.

The objective will be thus to join the small circle of these new rich person.

Fortune smiles to the daring one

The author gives the tone to the beginning of the book: “The majority of what I recommend will seem impossible and defy even the common smell”.

Its council is not to fall asleep in the soft cradle of a banal life which one imagines irreversible. To make move the things, it states some councils - always decorated examples practise among which:

  • Be sorry instead of asking the permission
  • There is not ideal moment to make the things
  • Develop your strong points instead of repairing your weaknesses
