New Year's Day, new organisor (2/2)

Here thus the continuation of the inventory of the sections of my organisor, of which the first part is already appeared at this address.

After the diary, the wish-lists and the routines, we have:

Section 4: Checklists

The checklists which I use are lists of things to be envisaged or make for a particular event. In his simplest form, one can for example create a checklist to remember businesses to be brought to go to the beach (history not to forget the sun lotion).

But one can also add more details, as what must occur during and after the event. The example more the current being the checklist to organize a meeting, which can be written in the following way:

Before:
- To send an email of recall to the group of the speakers, by specifying the date, the hour, the subject and documents that each one will have to provide
- To check the availability of the projector for the D-day
etc

During:
- To point out the day order
- To make the presentations between the speakers so necessary
etc
- To specify the date of the next meeting

Afterwards:
- To write minutes of the meeting

All this makes it possible to be more relaxed and to be insured against the unforeseen ones for a more professional result. Obviously, the example of the meetings is not very complex, as opposed to what that would give for a marriage or a conference.

As one can see it, the drafting of the checklists is not very different from the routines, one could have put them in the same section in fact. The notable difference being that for the checklist, one speaks about more specific events, therefore less inclined to be included in the category of the practices.

Section 5: Ideas inspiring

In this section, I note all the ideas which challenge me or which correspond to my values. It can be a question of:

- Funny Situations or reflexions: I like to remember these moments of frank fun where everyone is folded of laughing. To note, it is a way for me of studying the humorous process and of inspiring to me to create derivatives. In Madagascar, some strange situations, although dramatic, had thus marked me, among which:
them manhole covers in full road are often catch to be resold with the scrap merchants and ever replaced, of the blow, it happens that the cars fall inside, especially in rain season
it is not rare to see trucks patiently waiting in a narrow street until the rickshaw of front (obviously charged as a mule) arrives all gently at the next intersection

- Quotations: by quotation, I want to say a way of expressing idea in a concise and effective way. Thus these will be not only quotations that one classically finds in the books or the speeches, but also of certain people of my entourage. For example here some euphemisms able to avoid many tensions in the professional world:
Everyone is perhaps not of this opinion - to attenuate the refusal of an assertion of somebody who presents it like an obviousness
It is not a problem, it is a business to be treated. - for ddramatiser the difficulty inherent in a problem
I do not appreciate it - to say: I do not support it
I a little will hustle you - to say: all the specifications of the project on which you work are to be re-examined ;)

- Mantras (or creed): will mantras are rules of life in agreement with our values which one likes to apply each day. For example, me which am rather go-ahead type, I am rather in agreement with the few following quotations:
If all seems under control, then you do not certainly go rather quickly - Mario Andretti
To avoid coincidences, I create opportunities - Bruce Lee

- Anecdotes and lessons of life: here, I note how certain rules of wisdom apply in the real life. Sometimes they are stories read in books, or many things which arrived to me or which arrived at others.

Thus recently, I read a small booklet on the regard of oneself which quoted the bowling as life size evaluation of the level of regard of oneself of the children. Most trustful could take retreat on a bad shooting and could even laugh at it. While others took it immediately personally and declined the following parts, preferring to be spectators.

Section 6: Dreamstorming

I created this section a little like a exercise of creativity. It is a question of imagining what it would occur in extreme situations. A little like a writer fiction, I describe the good or bad consequences there this new way of seeing the world, and I look in the current society what approaches more this situation. Ca enables me to better include/understand certain current ethical questions.

I approach there for example the futuristic topic of teleportation:

Imagine how one can go anywhere when it is wanted, it would be fantastic! One could go to buy the best produced where they are, to be done one weekend on a paradisiac island or in Pampelune to have fun the festival. But at the same time, the wars would be also much harder to manage As for the nearest current equivalent: that could be private jets well.

Section 7: Ideas of projects

Each one of us from time to time has a small stroke of genius (or believe to have one of them ;) ): moments of inspiration where one with the impression to have discovered quelquechose again, a new product, a new business, etc It is important then of good of to remember so that does not remain only one blow of head. The project will undoubtedly not be mast immediately and will require many refinement and many research on the Internet. But as long as the euphoria of discovered inspires to us, to as much note the ideas which pass to us by the head!

Thus in this part, I precisely note what would be this project, the contents which would be proposed, and the name of the site which would result from this. Sometimes I look at if domain name is available, which words key are referred to it and if there are already competitors. I speak about them also a little goshawks about me. But to be frank, it is rare that I further go (study of the market, creation of a model, etc), especially for lack of time

Section 8: Collections

I make use of this section to gather collections of easy ways around the same topic, glanes progressively of my research on the Internet, or of my experiments in the real life. It is a way of feeding my creativity. Then, when I am at home, I can with the choice structure all that in the form of mental charts (mind maps) or keep the list such as it is.

This brainstorming is used to me rather regularly for the writing as articles.

Section 9: Memorizing

To involve my memory, I consign texts here to be learned how by heart. It can be justifying songs, sketches, stories or assertions. They are often short texts because of the limited size of the pages and not to overload the organisor too much.

Section 10: Objective goals/

To have always with oneself the list of the goals which one has in the life is a good manners to check that each one of our activities is aligned with our long-term priorities. For each goal one will be able to indicate the various means which make it possible to carry it out: activities to be practised and knowledge to be acquired. And according to the context where one saw, one will be able to choose such or such means according to the resources which one has at disposal. Sometimes, certain goals will remain at the dead point: for example if I want to become a champion of surfing, not easy to involve me while living in Nice ;) . This list will be thus very practical to be called in question and to possibly decide to go to live elsewhere.

Section 11: Address book

At the end of the organisor a traditional address book with an index is alphabetically. I endeavour to more or less regularly synchronize it with my telephone not to be taken with deprived in the event of loss.

Conclusion

Here, you know all in connection with my organisor. Finally, as you can see it, it goes well beyond the traditional functions of organization which one can find in the method Getting Things Done, since it incorporates functions of catch of note, introspection, drive to the creativity and memorizing. Obviously, this structure which functions for me will have to undoubtedly be adapted according to your needs.

Now, you can share your reactions in the comments, and I would be interested of more on your system of organization: Do you use a organisor paper or electronics? Which methodology do you follow? How do your sections arise?

A temporal capsule to contact your future me

The temporal capsule is personal development tools close to the personal newspaper aiming at putting in relation to its future me. In its simplest form, it is anything else only one letter intended for oneself which must be open in the future. It is enough to write it, then to give him a label on which one registers the date of opening envisaged: that is to say five, ten or twenty years later. And at the date of opening, one will be pleased to read a message on behalf of our me former.

A temporal capsule makes it possible to make a pause and to think of its life in a way in which one on generally little the occasion to do it. One captures there a testimony of the present like our waitings for the future. And later when it is opened, these elements will help us to become aware of our advance and to redcouvrir certain elements of our wisdom of then.

A testimony of the past

To create a temporal capsule, write a letter as if you address to your best friend. Establish a true connection with your future me, are friendly and diverting. You can speak about anything but it is good to concentrate on the situation present. Describe your reality most accurately possible.

A such photograph of the spirit, the temporal capsule aims at capturing what it occurs in our head at a given moment. Each version of oneself contains a form of quite particular wisdom. And it is necessary to keep in mind which the major part of what we hold for acqui at the moment present is volatile and will be probably forgotten while our life evolves/moves. Reality in which these two versions of ego live will have all the more changed that the date is remote. It will thus be necessary to take care to be sufficiently explicit to render comprehensible itself by its future me.

In your letter, it will be good to refer to all that constitutes your identity of the moment. For example some suggestions to be considered here:

  • A list of your favourites: What do you appreciate today? Made for example of the lists of films, books, tele emissions, songs, moments, people, festivals, surprises, lessons, quotations or success.
  • Questions and states of heart: Which are the greatest questions that you are posed? Which feelings currently prevail? How do you feel in the world which surrounds you? What do you appreciate today? Of what are you grateful?
  • Goals: Which is the direction of your life today? Which vision do you have your future life? Which are your priorities? What do you hope for your future me? Up to what point and how do you expect to be different when you read the letter?
  • One day in my life : Describe your life of every day. Describe one day typical with work/the house. Who are your daily close relations? What do you appreciate to make each day? Which are the small unimportant moments which you will miss tomorrow?
  • Great moments of the year: From which moments do want you to laugh or to recall you in the future? Which are 10 the best/worse things which arrived to you this year? How would you describe this year in a sentence? in a word?
  • Learned lessons and councils for oneself: Which councils would you give to your future me? Which important lesson did you learn recently that you would not like to forget?

When to open the temporal capsule?

The date of opening must be considered carefully. The more distant it will be in time and the more you will have changed. Although it can be amusing and moving by reading 30 years a temporal capsule, it is probable that you have evil to identify you with your old me. The framework of life and the priorities will be so different that the letter will have a limited utility from the point of view of the personal development. Contrary, a one year old capsule is likely to simply point out things to you which you have already at the head, since the framework of life will be probably similar. Blow, the contained informations will not have a great impact. Best will be thus to choose a compromise, for example five years.

The writing of the letters to your future me can also be done with regular intervals. In this manner, last the first time, you will have constituted a stock of temporal capsules to open time with other. And why also not establish a ritual of temporal capsules to write at each new year or for your birthday?

Lastly, it can be judicious to not choose a precise time but event. For example, you can write letters to be opened at the time of your marriage, the birth of your children, your 40 years or why not the day of your retirement? It would be certainly very appreciable to find there your opinions, councils or projects imagined then.

Various alternatives of temporal capsule

One finds a large variety of temporal capsules. In fact, the term would have been invented by Doctor Thornwell Jacobs in 1936, when it created off The Crypt Civilization, a room sealed containing a whole of recordings and objects testifying to civilization until this date and intended to be open into 8113 (1936 being halfway between 8113 and the beginning of the Egyptian calendar). Since, one regularly celebrates the closing of such temporal capsules, and one also sends some in space. International Time Capsule Society was created besides to maintain a database total of the whole of the existing temporal capsules.

Like the capsule of Doctor Thornwell, we can add in our personal capsule some relics like photographs, tickets of transport/d' entered to a concert, receipts, magazines, which one will place in one limps with shoe or a bag ziplock and which will testify to the strong moments of the present. One will be able to describe also there the technological objects of our environment which evolve/move rather quickly like the memory of our computers or the car that we have.

On the level of the message, one can imagine various forms such as a mindmap, a drawing, an audio/video recording or email. Annoying with the formats numerical is the question of their safeguarding, the supports evolving/moving so much quickly. And certain companies became specialized in this field like the futureme.org site, which makes it possible to send emails in the future. This site with the advantage of being able to make the message public while remaining anonymous, which is interesting to find inspiration (to read the book Dear Futur on this subject Me, gathering the bestof messages of the site).

The temporal capsule can also vary on the level of the recipient. One can for example send a letter to his own children, when it have our age or with their majority, by describing their very first years of existence there, or to organize a tradition of writing of letters each year for all the family. And even to write letters post-mortem. All these letters are gifts which have often much more value than tangible properties.

Lastly, why not reply to the letter after having read it? This would make it possible to give new a progress report on its life and of reconnecter with our old me. And it would be an excellent starting point for a new capsule. Later, it will be certainly very amusing to read again these various dialogues between several old versions of ourself!

What do you wait?

As you saw, the temporal capsule is an excellent tool for introspection which can help us to become aware of the change which takes place in us through the years. Then to taste with the pleasure of communicating with your me former, why not create a temporal capsule this very day?

And if you practise already this kind of tradition in your family or personally, do not hesitate to offer to us a testimony of your experiment in the comments
