New Year's Day, new organisor (2/2)

Here thus the continuation of the inventory of the sections of my organisor, of which the first part is already appeared at this address.

After the diary, the wish-lists and the routines, we have:

Section 4: Checklists

The checklists which I use are lists of things to be envisaged or make for a particular event. In his simplest form, one can for example create a checklist to remember businesses to be brought to go to the beach (history not to forget the sun lotion).

But one can also add more details, as what must occur during and after the event. The example more the current being the checklist to organize a meeting, which can be written in the following way:

Before:
- To send an email of recall to the group of the speakers, by specifying the date, the hour, the subject and documents that each one will have to provide
- To check the availability of the projector for the D-day
etc…

During:
- To point out the day order
- To make the presentations between the speakers so necessary
etc…
- To specify the date of the next meeting

Afterwards:
- To write minutes of the meeting

All this makes it possible to be more relaxed and to be insured against the unforeseen ones for a more professional result. Obviously, the example of the meetings is not very complex, as opposed to what that would give for a marriage or a conference.

As one can see it, the drafting of the checklists is not very different from the routines, one could have put them in the same section in fact. The notable difference being that for the checklist, one speaks about more specific events, therefore less inclined to be included in the category of the practices.

Section 5: Ideas inspiring

In this section, I note all the ideas which challenge me or which correspond to my values. It can be a question of:

- Funny Situations or reflexions: I like to remember these moments of frank fun where everyone is folded of laughing. To note, it is a way for me of studying the humorous process and of inspiring to me to create derivatives. In Madagascar, some strange situations, although dramatic, had thus marked me, among which:
them manhole covers in full road are often catch to be resold with the scrap merchants and ever replaced, of the blow, it happens that the cars fall inside, especially in rain season
it is not rare to see trucks patiently waiting in a narrow street until the rickshaw of front (obviously charged as a mule) arrives all gently at the next intersection

- Quotations: by quotation, I want to say a way of expressing idea in a concise and effective way. Thus these will be not only quotations that one classically finds in the books or the speeches, but also of certain people of my entourage. For example here some euphemisms able to avoid many tensions in the professional world:
“Everyone is perhaps not of this opinion” - to attenuate the refusal of an assertion of somebody who presents it like an obviousness
“It is not a problem, it is a business to be treated.” - for dédramatiser the difficulty inherent in a problem
“I do not appreciate it” - to say: I do not support it…
“I a little will hustle you” - to say: all the specifications of the project on which you work are to be re-examined ;)

- Mantras (or creed): will mantras are rules of life in agreement with our values which one likes to apply each day. For example, me which am rather go-ahead type, I am rather in agreement with the few following quotations:
“If all seems under control, then you do not certainly go rather quickly” - Mario Andretti
“To avoid coincidences, I create opportunities” - Bruce Lee

- Anecdotes and lessons of life: here, I note how certain rules of wisdom apply in the real life. Sometimes they are stories read in books, or many things which arrived to me or which arrived at others.

Thus recently, I read a small booklet on the regard of oneself which quoted the bowling as life size evaluation of the level of regard of oneself of the children. Most trustful could take retreat on a bad shooting and could even laugh at it. While others took it immediately personally and declined the following parts, preferring to be spectators.

Section 6: Dreamstorming

I created this section a little like a exercise of creativity. It is a question of imagining what it would occur in extreme situations. A little like a writer fiction, I describe the good or bad consequences there this new way of seeing the world, and I look in the current society what approaches more this situation. Ca enables me to better include/understand certain current ethical questions.

I approach there for example the futuristic topic of teleportation:

Imagine how one can go anywhere when it is wanted, it would be fantastic! One could go to buy the best produced where they are, to be done one weekend on a paradisiac island or in Pampelune to have fun the festival. But at the same time, the wars would be also much harder to manage… As for the nearest current equivalent: that could be private jets well.

Section 7: Ideas of projects

Each one of us from time to time has a small stroke of genius (or believe to have one of them ;) ): moments of inspiration where one with the impression to have discovered quelquechose again, a new product, a new business, etc It is important then of good of to remember so that does not remain only one blow of head. The project will undoubtedly not be mast immediately and will require many refinement and many research on the Internet. But as long as the euphoria of discovered inspires to us, to as much note the ideas which pass to us by the head!

Thus in this part, I precisely note what would be this project, the contents which would be proposed, and the name of the site which would result from this. Sometimes I look at if domain name is available, which words key are referred to it and if there are already competitors. I speak about them also a little goshawks about me. But to be frank, it is rare that I further go (study of the market, creation of a model, etc), especially for lack of time…

Section 8: Collections

I make use of this section to gather collections of easy ways around the same topic, glanées progressively of my research on the Internet, or of my experiments in the real life. It is a way of feeding my creativity. Then, when I am at home, I can with the choice structure all that in the form of mental charts (mind maps) or keep the list such as it is.

This brainstorming is used to me rather regularly for the writing as articles.

Section 9: Memorizing

To involve my memory, I consign texts here to be learned how by heart. It can be justifying songs, sketches, stories or assertions. They are often short texts because of the limited size of the pages and not to overload the organisor too much.

Section 10: Objective goals/

To have always with oneself the list of the goals which one has in the life is a good manners to check that each one of our activities is aligned with our long-term priorities. For each goal one will be able to indicate the various means which make it possible to carry it out: activities to be practised and knowledge to be acquired. And according to the context where one saw, one will be able to choose such or such means according to the resources which one has at disposal. Sometimes, certain goals will remain at the dead point: for example if I want to become a champion of surfing, not easy to involve me while living in Nice ;) . This list will be thus very practical to be called in question and to possibly decide to go to live elsewhere.

Section 11: Address book

At the end of the organisor a traditional address book with an index is alphabetically. I endeavour to more or less regularly synchronize it with my telephone not to be taken with deprived in the event of loss.

Conclusion

Here, you know all in connection with my organisor. Finally, as you can see it, it goes well beyond the traditional functions of organization which one can find in the method Getting Things Done, since it incorporates functions of catch of note, introspection, drive to the creativity and memorizing. Obviously, this structure which functions for me will have to undoubtedly be adapted according to your needs.

Now, you can share your reactions in the comments, and I would be interested of more on your system of organization: Do you use a organisor paper or electronics? Which methodology do you follow? How do your sections arise?

New Year's Day, new organisor (1/2)

new organisor

With this New Year's Day come from new dreams, of new objectives, new projects. It is one good moment to take new practices which will help to improve in the great directions that one set and to continue the noble resolutions solemnly stated at the time of the passage to the year 2009.

If you have a little imagination, then the task will have the enormous air, almost impossible: there is such an amount of work to realize, by where to start? We will thus need a plan, to build a diary in order to cut out all that in sections and surmountable stages. And for that, our best friend is of course the organisor!

In this article, I thus will speak to you about my system of organization, which has its defects and qualities, but which I hope for it, will give you ideas and will help to advance the schmilblick…

To hold a personal newspaper… for what to make? [2nd part]

newspaper-personnel-2.pngWe continue today our panorama of the various functions of the personal newspaper. Let us recall that one speaks here about the personal newspaper to the direction stated by Ira Progoff, i.e. a newspaper containing several sections to describe the various facets of our life and the outside world such as one perceives them.

In the 1st part, we saw that a personal newspaper could constitute an outline for an autobiography, an instrument of motivation or a tool of decision making. Here 3 additional reasons for you put at it:

4. To build its identity

When we start to interact with our parents, between 2 and 3 years, we discover that we are autonomous, of the individuals with whole share. We discover what one is and what one is not in relation with the others thanks to this interaction. It is the beginning of the formation of our identity.

This search of the identity will continue throughout our life. It is a process without end, a little as the search of wisdom. It at the same time consists in looking inside oneself and calling upon the glance of the others, who return us our image like a mirror.

Several dimensions take part in this construction:

To hold a personal newspaper… for what to make? [1st part]

When one speaks about personal newspaper (or diary), one has at the head all the image of young girls teenagers noting their passing fancies in births columns. With the age, some lose the practice to write their memories. However, it is not so ridiculous to continue to note our experiments throughout our life.

Certain thinkers such as Progoff Will go, inventor of the concept of intensive diary, regard it even as a crucial tool for the personal development. Diarists glad more then to depict their love life from day to day. But they describe each facet of their life in various sections.

We will explore in the following list the benefit which bring the regular behaviour of a personal newspaper:

A pen of space in your wallet

fisher-space-pen-refill-plus-wallet.jpg Ca made one moment that I wondered where to find a pen fine and who does not run who can hold in my wallet. And I believe that I have just found a good solution at Instructable.

In this tutoriel, one uses a refill of the famous pen Fisher Space PEN which one surrounds in a plastic sheath. Then one uses metal staples recovered on an old pen to hang it to the wallet.

Here the address of the tutoriel: Make has $5.00 “Space PEN” for your wallet

You will be able to find the same refills sold in France at arbreaplumes.com, but with 8 euros the unit. If you find less expensive, make us leaves there in the comments.

Of what will have the air the organisor of the future?

Which will be the evolution of Personal Information Manager?Being given the flood of information to which one has access since the advent of Internet, it becomes increasingly important for each one to use a management software of the personal informations or Personal Information Manager (PIM).

This type of software is generally composed of several modules which make it possible to manage the emails, the lists of things to be made, the appointments as well as the personal notes. Most known are Outlook, Lotus Notes or Essential PIM. In fact software wants to be all-in-a but one is often obliged to use certain software separated for complémenter their functionalities.

The goal of this article is to gather the characteristics of the current software to imagine what would be the PIM of the future: that which would enable us to organize ourselves in an intuitive and effective way to obtain the maximum of our base of personal informations.

Let us give him already a name with this software, why not Perfect PIM?

For me, Perfect PIM would be the marriage successful between 7 software which I currently use in an intensive way:

  • EssentialPIM for the management of the notes and the calendar
  • Gmail for the emails
  • MindManager/FreeMind for the mental charts
  • Website Watcher for the aspiration of files Web and the day before
  • Zoundry for the edition of articles of blog perhaps [some will find this choice strange but I remain persuaded that in the future, each one will have its blog]
  • Tudumo for the management of the tasks
  • SciRal Consistency for the recurring tasks

Here what would be its main features:

File hipster PDA (3rd part): How to organize your cards?

icone-organiser-fiches.jpg

This is the 3rd shutter of the file on hipster PDA. After having seen how this organisor paper is able advantageously to replace your PDA electronic and reviewed several solutions to conceive yours, we are interested today in the organization of the cards.

The article is based largely on the method Getting Things Done and the Pile site off Cards Index, like several other sources of inspiration through the Web…

File hipster PDA (1st part): Electronic Organisor or paper?

Electronic Organisor or paper? That already made nearly 3 years that Merlin Mann revealed its organisor paper: the hipster PDA and the number of its followers largely progressed. I was recently impressed to see it leaving it his pocket in recent the video Inbox Zero. Also I decided to begin a file entirely devoted to the hipster PDA of which here the first part…

A carry-key practises to take notes on any occasion

Hipster PDA on your door keysIf you know the method Getting Things Done, you heard certainly of Hipster PDA (Parietal Disgorgement Aid).

It is a pile of cards which one inserts in a grip, and which makes it possible to take notes on any occasion when one moves.

I have just found a version which makes it possible to make the system even more compact, since it has the format of a carry-key. The author logically baptized it hipster PDA keychain.

Here a tutoriel in images to manufacture it:
